    Case for Endorsement Companion Volume Implementation Guide Qualifications Skill Sets Units of Competency

    The Case for Endorsement is scheduled to be submitted to the AISC in July 2019.

    Thank you to all stakeholders who provided valuable feedback and contributed to this project.

    Drafting finalised

    The TAC has completed development work on the draft materials, which will now go through an independent edit and quality assurance review.

    The draft materials are expected to be submitted to the AISC by 31 July 2019 for their consideration and endorsement at the next available meeting. Final drafts will be made available then.

    The TAC has reviewed feedback from the first round of consultation and would like your feedback on the revised changes to the draft Units of Competency. A summary of major changes is available on the last page of each draft file.

    Draft Material Available

    The TAC has finalised draft Units of Competency for this project and would like your feedback. Feedback is also sought in regard to adding culture and diversity skills to the list of core units in the following qualifications:

    CSC30115 – Certificate III in Correctional Practice

    • CSCOFM005X Protect the safety and welfare of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander offenders

    CSC40115 – Certificate IV in Correctional Practice

    • CSCORG006X Work effectively with culturally diverse offenders and colleagues

    INDUSTRY SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTS NEEDED

    The Corrections IRC is forming a TAC for this project, seeking subject matter experts with relevant skills and experience in the corrections industry.

    This project will focus on reviewing existing qualifications and Units of Competency, aiming to develop cultural competency skills of Correctional Services Officers who supervise and manage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander offenders.

    Case for Change

    The Department of Education and Training have initiated the development of a Case for Change relating to cultural competency for the CSC Correctional Services Training Package.

    AIS and the Corrections IRC, along with industry stakeholders, will work together in drafting a Case for Change. This activity will form part of the 2018 Corrections IRC Skills Forecast and Proposed Schedule of Work.

    Requests for project information are to be sent to the Industry Manager.

    Background

    The Australian Industry and Skills Committee (AISC) has commissioned a project to revise existing qualifications in the CSC Correctional Services Training Package. The project will develop cultural competency skills for Correctional Services Officers for the supervision and management of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander offenders.

    The project will include:

    • Review of 3 existing qualifications
    • Review of 3 existing Units of Competency

    The Corrections Industry Reference Committee (IRC) will have oversight of this project, which will be facilitated by Australian Industry Standards (AIS) in consultation with industry stakeholders. A Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) will be formed for this project.
